1980-07-07 Saoul Mamby w rsc 13 (15) Esteban De Jesus, Metro Centre, Bloomington, Minnesota, USA - WBC. Referee: Rudy Ortega. For the opening two rounds, de Jesus (140) made sure he was first to lead before clinching, but by the third the champion showed what he was made of as he began to dominate with the jab, a tactic he developed all night. Round after round went by with the once super De Jesus taking punches by the plenty and in the 12th Mamby (139½) finally dropped him with a cracking left-right-left. Up at ‘four’, although forced to take the mandatory ‘eight’, De Jesus made it to the bell but should have stayed on his stool. Racing out for the start of the 13th, Mamby took his time before six straight lefts followed by a solid left-right dropped De Jesus on the seat of his pants and ushered the referee in for an immediate stoppage with 1.13 on the clock.
