1980-09-13 Salvador Sanchez w pts l5 Pat Ford, Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio, Texas, USA - WBC. Referee: Lou Filippo. Scorecards: 148-139, 145-141, 145-145. This was a tough fight for Sanchez (126) against a lanky challenger sporting a seven-inch reach advantage, and it took him several rounds before he could fathom a way to get inside where he could do some damage. There was no doubt that Ford (126), consistently jabbing away, was giving Sanchez all the trouble he could handle, but by the 11th he had begun to tire and the latter’s aggression, especially the body work, was beginning to pay off. At this point it was nearly all Sanchez and apart from being rocked in the 13th by a solid uppercut he opened Ford up to warrant the split decision.
