1980-09-19 [[Lupe Pintor]] w co 12 (15) [[Johnny Owen]], Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Marty Denkin. Having held his own for much of the fight, certainly up until the ninth round when he was knocked over heavily by a overarm right, Owen (117½) began to show signs that he might not get through the fight after he was again dropped, this time in the 12th, for a mandatory ‘eight’ count. On rising, following another cracking right he crumpled to the canvas to be counted out, immediately lapsing into unconsciousness with 25 seconds of the round left. Earlier, Owen had made good use of his reach advantage when countering well against the heavier-hitting Pintor (118) and had cut both of the champion’s eyes in rounds three and four.
