1980-11-08 [[Sergio Palma]] w rsc 9 (15) [[Ulises Morales]], Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina - WBA. Referee: Luis Sulbaran. Fought at a fast pace right from the start, the champion was soon cutting the ring space down and had Morales (119¾) pinned on the ropes taking a pounding in the second round. It was relentless, Palma (121¾) scoring most of the points from solid and effective blows from both hands to have Morales groggy in the fifth. Although Morales, who had become increasingly flat-footed by the sixth, was proving to be a tough fighter he was taking a beating, and after being on the brink of a knockout in the ninth the referee finally intervened to save him from taking further punishment on the 1.20 mark.
