1981-07-18 [[Michael Spinks]] w pts 15 [[Eddie Mustafa Muhammad]], Imperial Palace Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Richard Greene. Scorecards: 146-138, 144-140, 145-139. Unbeaten in 16 pro fights, Spinks (173¼), the former Olympic champion, took seven rounds to find his feet as Muhammad (175), despite having weight-making problems, looked to be on his way to successfully defending his title. That all changed in the eighth when Muhammad’s right eye suddenly closed and although he was still in the fight a knockdown in the 12th following a cracking right to the jaw put Spinks firmly in the driving seat. Despite Muhammad continuing to fight hard he was now second best and with Spinks letting the punches go his title drifted away from him.
