1981-07-26 [[Lupe Pintor]] w rsc 8 (15) [[Jovito Rengifo]], Showboat Sports Pavilion, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Joey Curtis. Giving Pintor (118) more than he bargained for, Rengifo (117) started fast and for the first six rounds the pair went toe-to-toe, with the champion often coming off worse. It was only in the seventh that Pintor, by now cut on both eyes, began to assume control, scoring heavily with jabs and combinations. In the eighth it was more of the same, ending with Rengifo being knocked over by a right-left and stopped on the 1.21 mark as he arose. The decision met with much dissent as it seemed that Rengifo was not given a proper opportunity of getting back into the fight, but the damage had been done and was supported by a statement from Pintor that he would have knocked his rival out if he had been given the opportunity.
