1981-08-29 Saoul Mamby w pts 15 Thomas Americo, Senayan Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia - WBC. Referee: Ken Morita. Scorecards: 146-141, 147-139, 146-146. Attacking from the opening bell, Americo (139) made life extremely difficult for Mamby (139¼), especially after opening up a cut on his right eye, and it wasn’t until the fifth that the champion found his feet when getting the left jab working and cracking in uppercuts and body blows. The contest was fairly even through to the 11th when Mamby was staggered by lefts and rights to the head, but he fought back well and got right on top as Americo tired. It was during the last four rounds that Mamby cemented his dominance as he opened up with both hands to drive Americo back and although one judge scored the fight even, the other two were much nearer the mark.
