1981-10-03 [[Alexis Arguello]] w rsc 14 (15) [[Ray Mancini]], Bally’s Park Place Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Defending for the first time the much taller Arguello (135) began by probing as Mancini (134½) looked to get inside and as the fight progressed, although the latter had his successes, he was always heavily countered for his pains. Regardless, Mancini continued to come on like a train and did well in the fifth and sixth before Arguello began to dominate with the jab. Despite being under pressure for much of the time, Mancini continued to bore in and had a good tenth before Arguello began to hand out a real beating with countless lefts and rights smashing through his defences. Finally, Mancini was dropped by a couple of left hooks followed by a right and was left hanging over the bottom strand prior to the fight being ended by the referee at 1.36 of the 14th.
