1981-11-07 Michael Spinks w rsc 7 (15) Vonzell Johnson, Playboy Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Larry Hazzard. Making his first defence, Spinks (173) was in control most of the way and although Johnson (174¼) fought well at times his best punches had no real effect on the champion. The fifth was Johnson’s best round, when taking the fight to Spinks, but after being cut by the left eye in the sixth and blowing heavily, he was under attack in the seventh before being dropped by a right to the jaw following a left hook to the body. Boxing on after the ‘eight’ count, Johnson was immediately in trouble when staggered by a left to the head, the referee stopping the contest with 1.13 on the clock.
