1981-11-14 [[Wilfred Benitez]] w pts 15 [[Carlos Santos]], Showboat Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Ferd Hernandez. Scorecards: 145-140, 145-139, 147-138. A poor fight, it wasn’t until the sixth round that there was any real action and that ended with the referee ruling that Santos (153¼) had been floored when most of the crowd saw it as a slip. After further pontificating by both men it was only in the 11th and 13th that Benitez (153½) went to work on his southpaw challenger, staggering him and at least trying to close the ring down as his fellow countryman got on the move. Although Benitez continued to work in the last two sessions, Santos, realising he was outgunned, failed to reciprocate and was more than happy to survive until the final bell.
