1982-01-24 [[Eusebio Pedroza]] w pts 15 [[Juan Laporte]], Sands Hotel Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Guy Jutras. Scorecards: 144-141, 145-143, 144-142. Despite having two points deducted for low blows and using an elbow, Pedroza (126), cut above the left eye in the eighth round, came out a comfortable winner over a challenger who put up a brave and determined battle. Both fighters landed heavily in a gruelling contest, Laporte (125¼) looking to the head for victory, while Pedroza concentrated on the body, especially during the last third where he battered his rival against the ropes. The last round was a war as both men gave it everything they had, but Pedroza had done enough as far as the judges were concerned.
