1982-05-08 Ray Mancini w rsc 1 (15) Arturo Frias, Aladdin Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Richard Greene. Although Frias (134½) started fractionally quicker than his challenger it wasn’t long before both of them were furiously trading punches to the delight of the crowd. Staggered from almost the first punch of the fight, ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini (135) came straight back at Frias pouring in blows relentlessly and a terrific left hook dropped the latter, who was forced to take the mandatory ‘eight’ count. Given the go-ahead to continue, Frias, badly cut both above and below the left eye, was rescued by the referee with six seconds of the session left after he had been driven against the ropes and was being battered unmercifully without reply. With both men looking as though they had been 15 rounds, at the finish Mancini was also cut over the left eye.
