1982-05-29 Rafael Limon w co 12 (15) Rolando Navarrete, Aladdin Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Joey Curtis. Despite both fighters being rocked again and again in this blood-and-thunder affair there had been no knockdowns prior to the 12th round, with the champion seemingly ahead after being on top for the first seven rounds before being pegged back from the eighth when Limon (128¼) made his big effort. By that stage although both Navarrete (129¼) and Limon, who was now cut under the right eye, were tiring the former still looked strong enough to retain his title. Beginning the 12th strongly, Navarrete tore into Limon with swinging punches. However, it was the Mexican who provided the finish when fighting back and delivering a left uppercut followed by a right to the body which sent the champion down to be counted out eight seconds after the bell had rung to end the round.
