1982-06-12 [[Leonardo Cruz]] w pts 15 [[Sergio Victor Palma]], Convention Centre, Miami, Florida, USA - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. Scorecards: 147-144, 146-143, 149-140. Making his third attempt to land the title, Cruz (121) finally came good when he outscored Palma (121) in what was a gruelling and bloody affair, both men receiving cut eyes - Palma on the left optic and Cruz on the right following a butt in the final session. It had been fairly even up until the 11th, but then Cruz pulled away to dominate right through to the final bell, taking advantage of the champion’s bad eye to blast in right hands to his ‘blind’ side.
