Making his first defence, Laciar (111½) used speed and combinations with both hands to eke out a split decision over the tough Gonzalez (111½), who made life extremely difficult for the champion. It was the aggressive challenger’s last chance to win back the title he once held and although he was dangerous until the final bell it was not enough and two fights later he had retired.
