1983-02-20 Juan Laporte w pts 12 Ruben Castillo, Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico - WBC. Referee: Davy Pearl. Scorecards: 117-108, 117-110, 119-108. Although the challenger scored well with left jabs and counters for the first six rounds he did not really do enough to win many of those sessions, Laporte (125¼) taking total command from the seventh until the final bell. With the heavier punches coming from Laporte in the tenth Castillo (126) received a standing ‘eight’ count after being hammered against the ropes for a concerted period. Towards the end of the 11th Castillo went down from a left hook, but although still shaky he managed to hear the final bell.
