1983-03-13 [[Jeff Chandler]] w pts 15 [[Gaby Canizales]], Resorts International Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 148-140, 147-140, 145-141. Expected to give the champion all kinds of problems, Canizales (117) found himself being given a boxing lesson, and although he did explode a few bombs on Chandler (118) they did not have the effect he was hoping for. Realising he did not need to fight at close quarters, Chandler, boxing mainly from the centre of the ring, showed real class in picking his punches while avoiding any dangerous attack, and was a deserving winner.
