1983-03-19 [[Milton McCrory]] drew 12 [[Colin Jones]], Convention Centre, Reno, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Octavio Meyran. Scorecards: 116-113, 114-116, 115-115. Following [[Sugar Ray Leonard]]’s retirement, McCrory (146½) and Jones (146) contested the vacant WBC version of the title, but nothing was decided after the judges came up with a draw following a tremendous scrap. While McCrory pumped in long left jabs throughout, Jones was looking for one big punch rather than work the body and had he done so the fight might well have finished early. Many of McCrory’s blows lacked sting and many of them were blocked while Jones produced the harder punches, and in the eighth a terrific shot to the body hurt the American. By the ninth, McCrory was on the run as Jones continued to bang away, but he was not doing enough and at the final bell he knew that he’d let the American off the hook.
