1983-05-20 [[Ossie Ocasio]] w pts 15 [[Randy Stephens]], Dunes Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Isidro Rodriguez. Scorecards: 148-144, 147-143, 146-142. Making good use of the ring, the champion was fast out of the blocks to run up a big points margin before relaxing and allowing Stephens (188¾) some respite. It was an uphill battle for Stephens, who had picked up a cut and swollen eye in an early round, and although manfully sticking to the task he lacked the know-how to trouble Ocasio (188¾) unduly. Despite Stephens coming back in the final third, especially when landing solid left hooks, any chance had of winning had drifted away from him by then. Possibly due to injury, Ocasio remained out of action for just under a year before being called upon to make a defence.
