1983-05-27 Marvin Hagler w co 4 (15) Wilford Scypion, Civic Centre, Providence, Rhode Island, USA - WORLD. Referee: Frank Cappuccino. The fight, not sanctioned by either the WBA or the WBC who considered that Scypion was not a worthy challenger for Hagler, was supported by the United States Boxing Association who had voted in April to set up an international body (USBA/I), which was renamed as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at their first ever convention in late October. Once the contest got underway, Scypion (160) quickly found himself outboxed and although the challenger had been expect to move in on Hagler (160) to make life difficult for him he was unable to mount any real attacks. In the third Scypion continued to be outclassed, being hit by all manner of punches, and once he picked up a cut on the left eye his task began to look impossible. That proved to be the case. Switching from southpaw to orthodox in the fifth, Hagler poured in the punches and eventually a left-right-left combination sent Scypion down to be counted out with 13 seconds of the session remaining.
