1983-06-15 [[Jaime Garza]] w rsc 2 (12) [[Bobby Berna]], Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Isaac Herrera. Contested for the title vacated by Wilfredo Gomez, Garza (122) took advantage of the opportunity despite being floored heavily by the hard-hitting southpaw towards the end of the first round. Coming back strongly in the second session, Garza knocked Berna down twice before sending his rival reeling into the ropes. At this juncture, timed at 1.53, the referee had realised that Berna was on to a hiding to nothing and rescued the Filipino to avoid him taking further punishment. Following a non-title fight in November, Garza was out of action for several months after suffering a leg injury.
