1983-07-17 Santos Laciar w rsc 1 (15) Hi-Sup Shin, Halla Gym, Cheju, South Korea - WBA. Referee: Zack Clayton. Caught cold, Shin (111¼) was never given time to recover as Laciar (111¾) simply overpowered him. Forced to take two standing counts before further heavy head punches sent him to the deck, the challenger was taken out of the fight when the referee brought matters to a halt at 1.19 of the first round. Back in April, when the United States Boxing Association International (USBA/I) was formed, later to be renamed as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in October, the organisation supported Laciar as champion. However, unable to do business with Laciar, the IBF eventually nominated Soon-Chun Kwon and Rene Busayong to decide their version of the title.
