1983-12-10 Dodie Penalosa w rsc 12 (15) Satoshi Shingaki, International Culture Sports Hall, Osaka, Japan - IBF. Referee: Kwang-Soo Kim. Having been initially set up as the United States Boxing Association/International (USBA/I) back in April and renamed as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in October, the organisation failed to recognise any of the current world champions and had nominated Penalosa, the OPBF champion, and Shingaki, who had only five bouts under his belt, to meet for their version of the title. Despite not being sanctioned by the Japanese Boxing Commission, Penalosa became the IBF’s first champion at the weight when he stopped his fellow southpaw, Shingaki, who was badly cut in the 12th round. The badly battered Shingaki collapsed in the dressing room before being taken to hospital.
