1984-03-09 Tim Witherspoon w pts 12 Greg Page, Convention Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 117-111, 117-111, 114-114. In a contest for the vacant title, it was Witherspoon (220¼) who made the better start when rocking Page (239½) in the opening session and his punches appeared to carry more weight than the flicking left jabs from Page. Page was the better boxer of the two, but he was unable to keep Witherspoon at distance and although he began to wrest control from the latter in the eighth and ninth once he had was hurt by a cracking left hook in the tenth his chances receded. Coming on strong in the last two sessions, having upped his work rate, Witherspoon belted Page with rights and lefts throughout the final six minutes to fully deserve the win.
