1984-03-09 Tim Witherspoon w pts 12 Greg Page, Convention Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 117-111, 117-111, 114-114. In a contest for the vacant title it was Witherspoon (220¼) who made the better start when rocking Page (239½) in the opening session, his punches appearing to carry more weight than the flicking left jabs from the latter. Page was the better boxer of the two but he was unable to keep Witherspoon at distance, and although he began to wrest control from the latter in the eighth and ninth once he was hurt by a cracking left hook in the tenth his chances receded. Coming on strong in the last two sessions, having upped his work-rate, Witherspoon belted Page with rights and lefts throughout the final six minutes to fully deserve the win.
