1984-05-26 Alberto Davila w rsc 11 (12) Enrique Sanchez, Carlisle Stadium, Miami, Florida, USA - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Contested outdoors in driving rain, Davila (118), cut over both eyes and well behind on points, retained his title in sensational fashion when he found the punches to conclude matters. Having nailed Sanchez (117¾) with a big right hook in the tenth which put him down, Davila came out refreshed in the 11th and took the fight to his challenger, ripping in lefts and rights before the referee rescued the stricken Sanchez on the 31 second mark.

After all of that, Davila forfeited the WBC version of the title in late March 1985 due to inactivity, an action that was followed by Daniel Zaragoza and Fred Jackson being matched to find a new champion.
