1984-10-19 [[Mike McCallum]] w pts 15 [[Sean Mannion]], Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBA. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 150-134, 149-136, 149-123. Contesting the vacant title, although Mannion (154) went the distance and stayed on his feet he was punished every time he went forward. Mannion, a southpaw, had no answer to McCallum’s left jab, which practically landed at will throughout, and finished the fight with his right eye nearly closed and badly bruised features. The indomitable Mannion even staggered McCallum (153¾) in the ninth, but it was a one-off.
