1984-12-15 Gene Hatcher w pts 15 Ubaldo Sacco, Tarrant County Civic Centre, Fort Worth, Texas, USA - WBA. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 144-141, 144-140, 141-145. In a bitterly fought contest, Hatcher (139), cut over and under both eyes, had to fight for all he was worth to decision Sacco (140) in defence of his title. There were times when it looked as though Hatcher’s crown was slipping away as Sacco scored with left jabs and combinations, but by the eighth he was beginning to make up lost ground when hammering his man around the ring and buckling his legs. It was in the 11th, however, that Hatcher finally made his run for home as he stormed after Sacco, cutting him over the left eye and flooring him with a right to the jaw, and although the latter fought back well it was the champion who landed the majority of blows through to the final bell.
