1984-12-20 [[Lee Roy Murphy]] w rsc 12 (15) [[Eddie Taylor]], Bismarck Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA - IBF. Referee: Stan Berg. In what was a tough first defence for Murphy (190), he was forced to chase Taylor (190) around the ring for almost half the contest before being able to catch up with him, having been held up by solid counters. By the tenth round, Taylor was tiring as Murphy chased him down and was forced to go toe to toe before being cut over the left eye and hurt on several occasions. By that stage of the contest, Taylor’s excellent left jab had deserted him and although landing with a few heavy rights he was overwhelmed in the 12th when a two-handed attack from Murphy had him all over the place prior to the referee stopping the fight on the 1.37 mark.
