Making his third attempt to win a world title, Lee (121½) lost again after putting up fierce resistance and giving Callejas (121½) a real scare. Down in the second round from body punches, Lee rallied well and started to hurt the champion, who then contained his rival by countering rather than aggressing to take the points. Callejas finished the fight with both hands damaged and a gashed eye.
