1985-02-16 [[Billy Costello]] w pts 12 [[Leroy Haley]], Midtown Centre, Kingston, New York, USA - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Scorecards: 118-111, 116-111, 119-109. Although the harder hitter of the pair, the champion couldn’t put Haley (139) down and even suffered the ignominy of being dropped himself in the second with what seemed to be a push. With his crouching style and durability, Haley was a difficult man to pin down, but by the sixth Costello (138½) had assumed control and was beginning to dominate with the left jab and heavy left hooks to the body. Despite suffering a badly cut left eye in the seventh, Haley wouldn’t be deterred and he continued to offer up a difficult target before punching away with both hands in the 12th to go down fighting.
