1985-04-06 Jimmy Paul w pts 15 Harry Arroyo, Bally’s Park Place Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Larry Hazzard. Scorecards: 147-138, 146-138, 142-141. Stepping in for Robin Blake who pulled out due to a hand injury, Paul (135) proved a more than capable challenger as he dropped Arroyo (134½) in the third with a right hand and appeared to control matters right through to the tenth when he again floored the champion with a similar punch. Although Arroyo gamely tried to turn things around in the next couple of sessions he was in big trouble in the 13th when Paul put him down again with a cracking right to the head and was almost stopped when he was back on his feet. Needing a kayo to win, Arroyo threw everything he had at Paul over the last two rounds, but the latter sensibly avoided any trouble and boxed well within himself until the final bell.
