1985-05-09 Jiro Watanabe w pts 12 Julio Soto Solano, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - WBC. Referee: Davy Pearl. Scorecards: 117-114, 120-113, 115-113. Solano (115) turned out to be a most worthy challenger, working the body well and providing most of the early aggression, while the southpaw Watanabe (115) stuck to his boxing, countering and utilising the jab. In the final round, to make sure of the verdict, Watanabe punched without let up as the Dominican faded and looked to be on the verge of a stoppage win when the final bell came to his rescue.
