1985-06-15 Pinklon Thomas w co 8 (12) Mike Weaver, Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Making the first defence of his title and back in action after an operation to repair a detached retina, Thomas (220¼) ultimately proved too good for Weaver (221¼) but had to weather a few storms on the way. Having been dropped in the first round, Weaver came back strongly to take the next few sessions with big rights and lefts paving the way, but by the sixth he was clearly tiring. At this stage of the fight Thomas took over with stiff left jabs and having caught Weaver with some heavy blows in the seventh he sent the latter crashing to the floor in the eighth to be counted out on the 1.42 mark with a tremendous right over the top
