1985-07-12 Barry Michael w pts 15 Lester Ellis, Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia - IBF. Referee: Gus Mercurio. Scorecards: 145-140, 147-140, 147-139. This was an exciting battle between English-born fighters. Although there was nothing much between them for the first half of the fight Ellis (130) was probably in front due to his good work at long range, where he picked up points with jabs and right hands to the head of the challenger. However, once Ellis was cut on the right eye in the seventh the tide began to shift, and Michael (129¾), working well to the body, came on strongly to cop the decision as the champion’s work-rate dropped.
