1986-03-22 Dwight Muhammad Qawi w rsc 6 (15) Leon Spinks, Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Joey Curtis. Having dropped down a division, the former world heavyweight champion, Spinks (190), was given a real battering at the hands of Quawi (189) before being rescued by the referee at 2.56 of the sixth round. Right from the opening bell the champion went for Spinks’ body, knowing that the latter had found it difficult to make the weight, and before too long the pattern of the fight was set. Going from body to head was reaping dividends for Qawi and although Spinks tried to fight back he was constantly being driven into corners and pounded, and it came as no surprise when he was pulled out in the sixth.
