1986-03-22 Dwight Muhammad Qawi w rsc 6 (15) Leon Spinks, Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Joey Curtis. Having dropped down a division the former world heavyweight champion, Spinks (190), was given a real battering at the hands of Qawi (189) before being rescued by the referee at 2.56 of the sixth round. Right from the opening bell the champion went for Spinks’ body, knowing that the latter had found it difficult to make the weight, and before too long the pattern of the fight was set. While going from body to head was reaping dividends for Qawi, although Spinks tried to fight back he was constantly being driven into corners and pounded prior to being pulled out.
