Making an aggressive start, Zapata (112) immediately put Hozumi (111¾) under pressure when unleashing a series of body blows before settling down to outbox his challenger. Cut over the right eye in the 11th round, Hozumi, who continually tried to pressure Zapata despite finding him adept at avoiding punishment, was put down in the 13th by a left-hand counter. Although he came back strongly to win the last two sessions he was unable to find the punches to turn the contest his way.
