1986-06-05 [[Rene Arredondo]] w rsc 5 (12) [[Lonnie Smith]], Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Marty Denkin. Playing a waiting game, Arredondo (139¼) appeared content to allow the champion to stay on the outside, flicking out left jabs nervously and throwing wild rights and lefts from well out of range. All that changed in the third as Smith (139½) moved closer to take the round before being wobbled by a right hand in the fourth and then being hurt again by a good left uppercut. Still Arredondo failed to make his move at the start of the fifth, but after gradually manoeuvering Smith into his own corner he eventually unloaded a smashing right to the jaw and the latter crashed down to be counted out at 1.24 of the session.
