1986-06-13 Julio Cesar Chavez w rsc 7 (12) Refugio Rojas, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Defending for the fifth time, Chavez (130) soon got down to work, putting punches together and concentrating on the body, while Rojas (129½) threw a few right handers which had little effect. Chavez really turned it on in the fifth, a left hook dropping Rojas for ‘nine’, and in the sixth a similar blow put his fellow Mexican down again for ‘nine’ before the bell came to his rescue. With time fast running out for Rojas, a combination of punches to the head sent him down again in the seventh and although he got up at ‘nine’ he was set upon by Chavez, who landed several left hooks before the referee decided to call a halt with the time of the stoppage being announced as 2.33.
