1986-08-23 Barry Michael w pts 12 Najib Daho, Granada Studio, Manchester, England - IBF. Referee: Rudy Battle. Scorecards: 118-110, 116-112, 116-110. Because the BBBoC recognised 12 rounds as being the championship distance for boxers under their jurisdiction, to allow the fight to go ahead in Britain the IBF, who favoured 15 rounds, were forced to comply. Despite a brave attempt to land the title by Daho (130) the better boxing of Michael (129¾) soon took him into the lead and by the sixth round he was dominating, with his body shots leaving a marked impression on the challenger. As much as Daho tried, Michael was one move ahead and towards the end of the contest terrific blows to the midsection almost toppled the British-based fighter over on several occasions. The last round saw both men going head-to-head and although Michael was cut over the right eye he was the one who landed the heavier blows.
