1986-08-23 Barry Michael w pts 12 Najib Daho, Granada Studio, Manchester, England - IBF. Referee: Rudy Battle. Scorecards: 118-110, 116-112, 116-110. Because the BBBoC recognised 12 rounds as being the championship distance for boxers under their jurisdiction, to allow the fight to go ahead in Britain the IBF, who favoured 15 rounds, were forced to comply.

Despite a brave attempt by Daho (130) the better boxing of Michael (129¾) soon took him into the lead. Dominating, with his body shots leaving a marked impression on the challenger, Michael was well in front by the sixth. As much as Daho tried, Michael was one move ahead, terrific blows to the midsection almost toppling the British-based fighter over on several occasions. The last round saw both men going head to head, and although Michael was cut over the right eye he was the one who landed the heavier blows.
