1986-10-30 Joe Manley w co 10 (15) Gary Hinton, Civic Centre, Hartford, Connecticut, USA - IBF. Referee: Sal Maltempo. Both men got down to work from the opening bell, but it was Manley (138½) who struck first when he dropped the southpaw champion with a solid right in the second round. Although shaken up Hinton (139) was soon back in the fray and for the next few sessions the fight see-sawed back and forth as first one man got the upper hand and then the other. Having been rocked in the seventh by a left hook, in the eighth it was Hinton’s turn to hurt Manley with a similar punch and the pair continued to fire in solid blows throughout the ninth. Things changed dramatically in the tenth when it became clear that Hinton was all in, and he was soon troubled by lefts and rights which saw him staggering across the ring before a heavy right put him down for the full count on the 2.14 mark.
