1986-11-22 Mike Tyson w rsc 2 (12) Trevor Berbick, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Tyson (221¼) was the new kid on the block, having blasted 25 of his 27 opponents into early submission, and he made a tremendous start when tearing in to the champion right from the opening bell and then wobbling him with clubbing rights to the head before the round ended. Picking it up where he left off, Tyson soon had Berbick (218½) under pressure in the second and after staggering the latter with heavy rights that sent him reeling across the ring he dropped him with a short right to the jaw. On his feet at ‘three’ and taking the mandatory count before getting back in action, Berbick was still on unsteady legs and although he took a couple of hard shots to the head the moment Tyson connected with a short left hook he was down again. Up at ‘nine’ the referee waved the fight off on the 2.35 mark when it was clear that Berbick was unable to control his legs and, on winning, Tyson became the youngest ever heavyweight champion at 20 years and five months of age.
