1987-02-13 Fidel Bassa w pts 15 Hilario Zapata, Tennis Grounds, Barranquilla, Colombia - WBA. Referee: Ernesto Magana. Scorecards: 146-141, 145-141, 146-142. Right from the start the inexperienced Bassa (112) took the fight to the southpaw champion, who fought from the eighth round with a badly cut lip. Not only did Zapata (111½) have Bassa in front of him, but he was actually attacked from behind by a ringsider and given five minutes rest to recover. With missiles being thrown it was hardly surprising that Zapata had more on his mind than defending the title.
