1987-03-04 Terry Marsh w rsc 10 (15) Joe Manley, Festival Hall Super Tent, Basildon, England - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Making a great start, showing plenty of commitment and passion, Marsh (140) outboxed the champion right from the first bell and was well in control by the end of the eighth as his opponent weakened. The only blots on the Englishman’s performance at that moment in time had been two blatant butts for which he had been severely cautioned, but they had served a purpose. Marsh began the ninth as though he intended it to be the last and keeping Manley (138½) under unrelenting pressure he finally floored the latter with a left hook for the mandatory ‘eight’. There was not much left to come from Manley, and 20 seconds into the tenth it was all over as the referee dived in to rescue him when he was in the act of falling after Marsh had poured in punch after punch from the start of the session.
