1987-03-07 Azumah Nelson w co 6 (12) Mauro Gutierrez, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Davy Pearl. The champion did not have an easy defence in this one as it was soon apparent that Gutierrez (126) had come to fight and for five rounds he did just that, especially in the fifth when he trapped Nelson (124½) in a corner and hammered away. However, the sixth session spelt curtains for Gutierrez after he was belted by two rights, and a tremendous left hook that dropped him for the full count 33 seconds into the round.
