1987-03-27 [[Buster Drayton]] w rtd 10 (15) [[Said Skouma]], Festival Palace, Cannes, France - IBF. Referee: Joe O’Neil. Getting another chance to win the the title, it nearly paid off for Skouma (153¼) in the fourth round when he rocked the champion badly with rights and lefts. Up to that point Drayton (153½) had been in charge and he came back well to weather the storm before Skouma got his left jab and right crosses going in the sixth. Skouma was still pressing in the eighth, even though he had been cut over the right eye by dangerous headwork for which Drayton was deducted a point, and even in the ninth he was scoring well with short punches on the inside. However, behind on all the cards, the tenth saw Drayton come out firing and several left hooks to the head hurt Skouma before a cracking right sent him down. Although Skouma beat the count, Drayton was on him like a flash and while the referee was prepared to let it continue the beleagured Moroccan’s were not, throwing the towel in. Amid the confusion the bell to end the round went and the retirement was accepted.

Getting another chance to win the title, it nearly paid off for Skouma (153¼) in the fourth round when he rocked the champion badly with rights and lefts. Up to that point Drayton (153½) had been in charge, and he came back well to weather the storm before Skouma got his left jab and right crosses going in the sixth. Skouma was still pressing in the eighth, even though he had been cut over the right eye by dangerous headwork for which Drayton was deducted a point. Clearly up for it, even in the ninth Skouma was scoring well with short punches on the inside. However, behind on all the cards, the tenth saw Drayton come out firing, several left hooks to the head hurting Skouma before a cracking right sent him down. Although Skouma beat the count, Drayton was on him like a flash, and while the referee was prepared to let it continue the beleaguered Moroccan’s corner were not, throwing the towel in.
