1987-04-19 [[Mike McCallum]] w rsc 10 (15) [[Milton McCrory]], Pointe Resort, Phoenix, Arizona, USA - WBA. Referee: Joe Cortez. While McCrory (154) got away well against the slow starting champion, by the seventh round he was being pegged back by body shots that were undoubtedly sapping his strength, and when he was cut over the left eye in the eighth his challenge was almost over. Seemingly unable to hurt McCallum (153¾) the game McCrory gave it everything he had in the ninth, despite being under great pressure, and was taking plenty of stick at the bell. McCallum did not need to be told that McCrory, now badly swollen over the right eye as well as the left, was ready to be taken at the start of the tenth and he cut loose with both hands to eventually force the latter to his knees. Although McCrory was up at ‘four’ the referee took a good look at him on completion of the mandatory count and waved it off, the finish being timed at 2.20.
