1987-05-15 Evander Holyfield w rsc 3 (15) Ricky Parkey, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF/WBA. Referee: Davey Pearl. In a battle for effectively two titles despite the WBA refusing to sanction the bout due to their dispute with the State of Nevada, Holyfield (188) quickly proved to be a cut above the IBF’s Parkey (187½). By the second round it was noticeable that Holyfield had the hand speed to bother Parkey and although the latter hit back the body shots were already wearing him down. After being dropped twice in the third from brutal lefts and rights, Parkey tried to come back, but when a two-handed attack sent him into the ropes the referee had seen enough, halting the contest with 16 seconds of the session remaining.
